Freunde der Sonne und des Universums, heute möchte ich euch unbedingt mitnehmen an meinen Lieblingsort in Neuseeland: Lake Tekapo. Lasst euch von den Bildern verzaubern!
direkt verzaubert
Der Bus parkte direkt in dem kleinen Ort Tekapo, welcher am gleichnamigen See Lake Tekapo liegt. Als ich ausstieg, konnte ich sofort einen Blick auf den See erhaschen. Mir verschlug es tatsächlich die Sprache. Dieses türkisfarbene Wasser, und im Hintergrund die Southern Alps. Unfassbar!
Der Lake Tekapo bekommt seine intensive, milchig-türkise Färbung durch feinen Felsstaub, der durch Gletscherbewegungen zermahlen und durch das Wasser des Sees in der Schwebe gehalten wird.
Noch eine besondere Info über diesen Ort:
Er ist Teil eines UNESCO Lichtschutzgebiets und damit perfekt für ausgiebige Stern- und Südpolarlichter-Beobachtungen geeignet. Der beste Zeitraum dafür ist zwischen April und Mai. Das heißt, dass ich leider etwas zu früh dort bin. Aber falls ihr eure Reise dorthin planen solltet, denkt unbedingt daran! Es ist also ein besonderer Ort, welcher bekannt ist für seine klaren Nächte und fehlende Lichtverschmutzung.

Von der Bushaltestelle musste ich mit meinem ganzen Gepäck circa 15 Minuten zu meinem Hostel laufen. Hallelujah, das war alles ganz schön schwer. Ganz außer Puste erreichte ich dann endlich meine gemütliche Unterkunft direkt am See. Vom großen Gemeinschaftswohnzimmer aus, konnte ich direkt auf den Lake Tekapo schauen. Nachdem ich mich in meinem 6-Bett-Zimmer eingerichtet hatte, machte ich mich nochmal auf den Weg in die kleine Stadt, um ein paar Lebensmittel einkaufen zu gehen. Schließlich stand am nächsten Tag eine aufregende Wanderung bevor, für die ich ein paar Snacks brauchte. Außerdem gönnte ich mir meine allerliebste Blutorangen-Limonade und setzte mich damit auf eine Bank und genoss die Aussicht auf den strahlenden See.
Kurz darauf hörte ich Jemanden meinen Namen rufen. Also das kann ja wirklich nicht sein, dachte ich mir. Wer soll mich denn am anderen Ende der Welt kennen und dann noch in einem so kleinen Ort? Doch als ich hochschaute, erkannte ich Jasmijn auf mich zukommen. Die süße Holländerin, mit der ich die 20-km-Wanderung in Taupo gemacht habe. Meine Freude war groß und so verabredeten wir uns zum Abendessen. Wir verbrachten einen lustigen Abend mit leckerem Essen zusammen und verabschiedeten uns mit einem lachenden und einem weinenden Auge. Während wir uns umarmten, versprachen wir uns, dass wir uns in den Niederlanden wiedersehen werden. Darauf freue ich mich jetzt schon!
die schönste wanderung der welt
Am nächsten Morgen machte ich mich mit großer Vorfreude auf den Weg, den Mount John Summit Circuit Track zu wandern. Selina, die ich aus meinem Hostel in Christchurch kannte, hatte mir diese Wanderung empfohlen. Sie sollte circa zwei bis drei Stunden dauern. Also, los geht’s!
Die Sonne schien heute besonders hell, hatte ich das Gefühl. Mit meinem Wanderrucksack auf dem Rücken startete ich die Wanderung am Eingang „Lake Tekapo Township Lakeshore“. Dieser Weg führt erstmal zwei Kilometer am Seeufer entlang. Ich war ganz alleine unterwegs – weit und breit niemand zu sehen. Ach, genau so liebe ich das! An manchen Stellen sah ich genau, wie glasklar das Wasser war. Je höher ich kam, desto mehr konnte ich von der ganzen Landschaft, die Tekapo umgab, sehen. Mit offenem Mund stand ich irgendwann da und bestaunte dieses atemberaubende und wunderschöne Panorama. Es wirkte wie ein Gemälde. Die Farbe des Sees mit den vielen Bergen im Hintergrund. Der Himmel hatte an manchen Stellen sogar die gleiche Farbe wie das Wasser des See’s. Ganz ruhig war es um mich herum, so ruhig, dass ich mein Herz sogar pochen hörte. Noch nie in meinem Leben hatte ich so etwas Schönes gesehen. Dieser Ort strahlte so viel Frieden aus.
Irgendwann führte ich ein kleines Freudentänzchen auf, weil all meine Emotionen raus mussten. Ich war so glücklich und konnte nicht mehr aufhören zu strahlen. An der Spitze angekommen, wartete ein kleines aber feines Café auf mich. Darauf hatte ich mich die ganze Zeit schon gefreut. Es ist mit Abstand der beste Ort, um einen leckeren Iced-Latte mit Hafermilch zu trinken. An einen der Steintische packte ich mein Notizbuch aus, neben mir mein leckerer Kaffee. Voller Dankbarkeit ließ ich meinen Blick über diese einzigartige und besondere Landschaft streifen, bevor ich anfing ein paar Gedanken in mein Notizheft zu kritzeln.

Diesen Ort möchte ich nie wieder verlassen. Den Tag, an dem ich an dieses schöne Fleckchen in Neuseeland wieder zurückkehren werde, sehne ich sehr herbei. Vielleicht sind ja dann die Spitzen der Berge in Schnee eingetaucht und ich sehe von dort oben die Südpolarlichter. Ein Traum, oder?
Gedanken der letzten zeit:
Während dieser Wanderung wusste ich schon, dass ich eine Entscheidung treffen werde, die meine ganze Reise gehörig auf den Kopf stellen wird. Aber Pläne sind ja bekanntlich dafür da, um sie wieder über Bord zu werfen und neue zu schmieden. Alles kommt, wie es kommen soll. Und irgendwie ist es auch ganz aufregend zu wissen, dass da bald was Neues auf mich wartet.

Friends of the sun and the universe, today I want to take you to my favorite place in New Zealand: Lake Tekapo. Prepare to be enchanted by the pictures!
Instantly enchanted
The bus parked right in the small town of Tekapo, which is located at Lake Tekapo. When I got out, I immediately caught a glimpse of the lake. It really took my breath away. This turquoise water and the Southern Alps in the background. Unbelievable!
Lake Tekapo gets its intense, milky turquoise color from fine rock dust, which is ground up by glacial movements and held in suspension by the water in the lake.
Another special piece of information about this place:
It is part of a UNESCO light reserve and therefore perfect for observing stars and southern lights. The best time for this is between April and May. Unfortunately, that means I’m there a little too early. But if you’re planning your trip there, keep this in mind! So it’s a special place, known for its clear nights and absence of light pollution.
the house by the lake
I had to walk about 15 minutes from the bus stop to my hostel with all my luggage. Hallelujah, it was all quite heavy. Out of breath, I finally reached my cozy accommodation right by the lake. From the large communal living room, I had a direct view of Lake Tekapo. After settling into my 6-bed room, I made my way back to the small town to do some grocery shopping. After all, I had an exciting hike coming up the next day for which I needed a few snacks. I also treated myself with my favorite blood orange lemonade and sat down on a bench to enjoy the view of the beautiful lake.
Shortly afterwards, I heard someone calling my name. Well, that really can’t be right, I thought to myself. Who would know me on the other side of the world and in such a small place? But when I looked up, I recognized Jasmijn coming towards me. The sweet Dutch girl with whom I did the 20 km hike in Taupo. I was delighted and we arranged to meet for dinner. We spent a fun evening together with delicious food and said goodbye with a happy and a crying eye. As we hugged, we promised each other to meet again in the Netherlands. I’m already looking forward to that!
the most beautiful hike in the world
The next morning, I set off with great enthusiasm to hike the Mount John Summit Circuit Track. Selina, who I knew from my hostel in Christchurch, had recommended this hike to me. It should take around two to three hours. So, here we go!
The sun was shining particularly brightly today, I sensed. With my hiking backpack on my back, I started the hike at the „Lake Tekapo Township Lakeshore“ entrance. This path leads along the lakeshore for two kilometers. I was all alone – no one to be seen far and wide. Oh, that’s exactly how I love it! At some points, I could see exactly how crystal clear the water was. The higher I got, the more I could see of the whole landscape that surrounded Tekapo. At one point I stood there with my mouth open, marveling at this breathtaking and beautiful panorama. It looked like a painting. The color of the lake with the many mountains in the background. The sky had the same color as the lake water in some areas. It was very quiet around me, so quiet that I could even hear my heart pounding. I had never seen anything so beautiful in my life. This place radiated so much peace.
At one point I did a little happy dance because all my emotions had to come out. I was so happy and couldn’t stop smiling. When I reached the top, a small but lovely café was waiting for me. I had been looking forward to this the whole time. It is by far the best place to have a delicious iced latte with oat milk. I unpacked my journal at one of the stone tables, my delicious coffee next to me. Grateful, I let my gaze wander over this unique and special landscape before I started writing a few thoughts in my notebook.

I never want to leave this place again. I’m longing for the day when I can return to this beautiful spot in New Zealand. Maybe the tops of the mountains will be covered in snow and I’ll be able to see the South Polar Lights from up there. What a dream, right?
thoughts of the last time:
During this hike, I already knew that I was going to make a decision that would turn my whole trip upside down. But as we all know, plans are there to be thrown overboard in order to forge new ones. Everything turns out as it should. And somehow it’s also exciting to know that something new is waiting for me soon.
